Up till now over 400 exploratory wells have been drilled by various national and international exploration and production companies, resulting in over 60 gas discoveries. On the other hand, about 42 TCF of crude gas reserves of variable quality have been discovered so far.

Currently, Pakistan has 27 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas reserves, which can meet gas requirement for the next 25 years, growing at an average of 6% during the past few years. Pakistan has a well developed and integrated infrastructure of transporting, distributing and utilizing natural gas with 7400 KM of transmission pipelines and 49,000 KM of distribution network developed progressively over 48 years.

Development of the new fields is being carried out at a fast pace to accelerate gas development with 1 bcfd additional gas in the system. Additionally, the transmission and distribution network is also being upgraded to carry 850 mmcfd of natural gas with an investment of US$ 400 million.
